What We Want To Do

We will connect businesses with surplus food to consumers. We will aim to minimise food waste, one meal at a time, and reduce the environmental impact of discarded food. We will aim to transform surplus into sustenance.

How We Want To Do It

Businesses will increase their revenue by selling a selection of their unsold products on the app, customers will choose, pay and collect the food at an agreed time. The food items will be offered at a reduced price as they will be reaching their ‘Use by’ or ‘Best before’ date.

Imagine going to the market, leaving with three full bags of groceries and coming home. Before you step through your door, you stop and throw one of the bags into a trash bin, which later is hauled away to a landfill. What a waste. Collectively, that is exactly what we are doing today. Globally, 30 to 40 percent of food intended for human consumption is not eaten. Given that more than 800 million people go hungry every day, the scale of food loss fills many of us with a deep sense of anguish.

In Seoul, garbage cans automatically weigh how much food gets tossed in the trash. In London, grocers have stopped putting date labels on fruits and vegetables to reduce confusion about what is still edible. California now requires supermarkets to give away — not throw away — food that is unsold but fine to eat.Around the world, a broad array of efforts are being launched to tackle two pressing global problems: hunger and climate change. Food waste, when it rots in a landfill, produces methane gas, which quickly heats up the planet. But it’s a surprisingly tough problem to solve.

Reducing food waste should be a priority. Buy smart. Only purchase the necessary number of products for yourself/your business. Check use-by dates before you buy. Remember, best before dates are only a guideline – it’s about quality, not safety. Most food past its use-by date will still be safe to eat, it just might not be at its best.  Freeze food. Plenty of fresh products, including fruit and veg, can be frozen after purchase.
